What We Offer
-
EMBA runs an association apiary, which is used for teaching, demonstration and other practical tasks.
Members have the opportunity to attend informative sessions or simply help out during the beekeeping season.
-
Through the summer months, EMBA organises a series of outings to apiaries in the local area (including its own), as well as some special talks and events. Please see the Events menu for information.
EMBA members have the opportunity to take their bees to our heather site each year, which culminates in our annual heather picnic.
We hold an extremely successful Beekeepers’ Question Time each summer with an expert panel of knowledgeable beekeepers.
-
Throughout the winter months, EMBA organises a series of talks, demonstrations and other similar events from a variety of speakers for its membership.
Please see the Events page for information on these lectures.
These lectures usually take place at St John’s Church in the Cornerstone Centre, Edinburgh.
-
EMBA purchases jars and winter feed in bulk, members can enjoy reduced costs by buying from the EMBA online shop, exclusively for members.
-
EMBA members receive a regular newsletter written by our own beekeeping guru Alan Riach who provides timely advice on managing our bee colonies throughout the year.
“Can I just say that my son Blair & I really look forward to Alan’s Monthly Newsletter. Perhaps it’s because we are still beginners but every month I learn at least one new piece of information.”
“Just felt I had to feed that back, we both think the Newsletters are excellent.”
STUART
“The guiding light for beekeepers.”
JOHN
“I love them… great reminders of everything.”
SARAH
-
EMBA holds an annual Honey Show each November in the Eric Liddell Centre.
Our members have the opportunity to show off their honey and hive products for the chance to win awards.
Our Honey Show is a little different from other associations, it is more of a social event and the judge gives feedback on entries, so it is an excellent learning opportunity.
We also have a ‘Novice’ class for those just starting their beekeeping or honey showing journey.
-
EMBA has a variety of equipment available for its members to loan.
To borrow any of the equipment, please contact our Secretary.
